The Roundabout Road Through Rio (31 July 2014, Goiana, Brazil, about 9:30 pm)

31 July 2014, Goiana, Brazil, about 9:30 pm
I finally bought a journal so I can record the memories I am making here.
To start at the beginning (and to try to be brief…) we left Milwaukee on July 28th and arrived in Brasilia almost 24 hours later.  We had a delayed flight out of Milwaukee which threw off the rest of our itinerary. Our original flight routing was going to be Milwaukee -> Charlotte -> Sao Paulo -> Brasilia. We changed to Milwaukee -> Charlotte -> Rio de Janerio -> Sao Paulo -> Brasilia, and somehow managed to arrive in Brasilia only one and a half hours after our original plan. In the moment it was very….

I was pulled away from writing yesterday so we could eat dinner/a late night snack, which was a corn paste filled with cheese, all stuffed inside a corn husk – it was very good.
The travelling here was very frustrating and exhausting, but it gets to a point where there isn’t much you can do about it in the moment, other than pay the extra $400 for a flight change fee (we flee with two different airlines and the second one couldn’t give us a different ticket since it wasn’t their fault that we missed the flight).

Maybe it was because I knew there wasn’t anything we could do about it, or maybe it was because I was so exhausted from sprinting from gate E39 to D11 at the Charlotte airport that I thought I was going to have an asthma attack or pass out, but I calmly talked to the customer service attendant to figure out the next steps. In moments like that, you just have to go with the flow. And in some regards, it ended up working out for the better for us, our new flight a lot more room on it and we got to see a small portion of Rio de Janerio – so it all worked out….hold on, lunch time.
